OUR EVENTS We regularly hold a number of events, some of our recent ones are shown below. Upcoming events will be announced via our newsletter and on social media.

Wreath-Making

Wreath making workshop

On Sunday 10th December, we held a Wreath Making Workshop exclusively for Parent Carers.

Using seasonal foliage and a large selection of decorating materials such as cinnamon sticks, oranges and berries, Green Rose UK guided our attendees step by step to create their very own traditional fresh Christmas wreath on a 12″ frame to take away with them.

Each parent carer also enjoyed some festive drinks and sweet treats provided by us and finished the session with a Brave Box to take home to continue that self care over the festive season. This class was not only a chance to learn a new skill, but also a great opportunity to spend quality time with other parent carers.

With thanks to Julia and You for capturing some beautiful photographs of the day.

Parent-Awareness

Parent Carer Awareness Day 2023

Monday 23rd October was Parent Carer Awareness Day. This is a day created by us at Brave to raise awareness, educate others and make Parent Carers feel seen.

We recognise that many Parent Carers forget to care for themselves. They work so hard to keep their child well that their own needs always come second. However, over time, this can have a negative impact on the mental health of the caregivers and whole family unit.

We strongly believe that self care is essential for Parent Carers mental health and well-being and that it is vital that they look after themselves so they can be the best for their children.

We asked Parent Carers to share in their own words ‘What is being a Parent Carer to you?’. Take a look below at the small selection of photographs and words sent in.

Restore-Refresh

Restore and Refresh Retreat

As part of our 3rd Birthday celebrations, we welcomed 8 Parent Carers to our Restore and Refresh Retreat.

The Parent Carers took part in a gentle group yoga class, accompanied with mediation and sound healing.
They enjoyed a light lunch provided by Woodland Bakery, received goody bags and had the choice of a 45 minute treatment by The Balanced Health Hut.

Between treatments and lunch, each Parent Carer had Angel readings and the chance meet with time other Parent Carers of children with complex medical needs.

They finished the day with a group mindfulness session which included mindfulness techniques to take away and use in everyday life.

Mindfulness Classes

Mindfulness classes

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully in the present, giving your brain a break from the daily stresses and anxieties.

We are grateful that Mindful Magic Basildon and Thurrock have agreed to continue their ongoing fundraiser for Brave in the new year. All profits from these classes will be donated to Brave and we will attend every class.

Classes are approximately every 6 weeks and whilst these classes are open to everyone to attend, if you are a Parent Carer then you will have a discounted price at £5 a class. Parent Carers will also leave every session with a Brave bag filled with self care items for you to continue your self care between sessions.

These classes will provide you with a variety of techniques to use in everyday life which allow you to switch off and focus being purely in the present. These include breathing and grounding techniques, creative activities and meditation.

Mindfulness classes will be held 7:45-9:15pm at Herd Lane Scout Hall in Corringham, Essex SS17 9BQ.
